Granchio decoratore (Camposcia retusa)

Crabs that decorate their shells are usually referred to as decorator crabs. The decorator crab, a master of disguise, cloaks its body in a tapestry of tropical treasures. From the lush greens of algae to the vibrant hues of coral, these small crustaceans have an uncanny ability to blend in with their surroundings. Found in the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean and Pacific, these crabs are true chameleons of the sea. They belong to the Majidae family, a diverse group of over 1,500 species, but despite their impressive camouflage abilities, they are not considered to be a threatened species and hold little commercial value. But for those who take the time to look, the decorator crab is a true work of art, a living sculpture crafted by nature herself.
