Most Naked Dresses of All Time..

From sheer styles that expose just a hint of lingerie, to completely see-through designs that leave nothing to the imagination, there's no denying the impact of a naked dressWhether crafted from tulle, mesh, diamantes or something else altogether, the look is guaranteed to stand out on a red carpet or A-list event.t think of Kendall Jenner in some of her iconic sheer styles at the Met Gala or Cannes Film Festival, or Florence Pugh's pink number that made news around the world.Or take a trip down memory lane to the time Rose McGowan stole the show at the 1998 MTV Awards in a dress that showed off every inch of her figure - see it at the bottom of the page.Naked dresses have officially become a style category unto their own, and we're counting down some of the best of all time. KeThe naked dress certainly isn’t easy to pull off. Only a true red carpet master can wear such a look with the requisite confidence and, sure—it’s not exactly in line with every A-lister’s brand to pull off a scantily clad gown—but for those who can and do, it’s red carpet gold. Some naked dresses cause more of a stir than others: remember Halle Berry’s 2002 Elie Saab number when collecting her Oscar? Or how about Kendall Jenner’s 2017 La Perla Met Gala gown that left more than just titters in her wake?

From thoughtfully placed lace to straps that conceal, there are any number of inventive and ingenious ways designers approach a naked dress. One of the most iconic sheer moments in recent memory was when Rihanna stepped out in Adam Selman at the 2014 CFDA Awards to collect the Fashion Icon Award that year. The dress, a sheer and sparkly slip was complemented by a fur stole and equally sparkly headpiece. It was a look that captivated the world—and Rihanna’s tongue-in-cheek manner made her bestowed icon status even more deserved. In 2022, she revived her love of naked dressing, and, because only Rihanna could outdo Rihanna, she wore a sheer lingerie-inspired two-piece while pregnant, strutting the streets of Paris Fashion Week in sultry black Dior lace.

While 2022 was full of memorable 'naked' moments on the red carpet, the one that invited the most controversy had to be Kim Kardashian's donning of Marilyn Monroe's sheer 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' gown to the Met Gala. “Nowadays everyone wears sheer dresses, but back then that was not the case,” Kardashian told Vogue. “In a sense, it’s the original naked dress. That’s why it was so shocking.”

Below, Vogue takes a look at some of the other most memorable naked dresses of all time. ep scrolling to see them all.
