They have black markings on their chest and eyes and have a black bill. When not breeding, the male is brown with bluish-colored wings and tail. The female is similar in appearance to the non-breeding male except the beak is a dark reddish-brown color. This bird species prefers arid to semi-arid habitats and is found across much of the mainland of Australia.
