A beautiful 1400 Year-old Gingko Tree

Since mid-November this Gingko tree growing next to the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple in the Zhongnan Mountains has been dropping yellow leaves turning the temple into a yellow ocean. Every year in the fall, this beautiful tree sheds, and leaves behind a beautiful ocean of yellow leaves.

The Ginkgo tree, also known as the maidenhair, is sometimes referred to as a “living fossil” because, despite all the drastic climate changes, it has remained unchanged for more than 200 million years. It is a living link to the times when the dinosaurs ruled the earth.

The 1,400-year-old ginkgo tree is in the walls of Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple, in Zhongnan Mountain region of China. As the leaves fall and create a vibrant sea of gold every autumn, tourists from all across the world flock to see the sight. However, this year, because of the global pandemic, only the people in China could view this marvel. Visitors wait for the opportunity to capture the photos of the colourful carpet.
