Paddy Straw (Volvariella bombycina)

Footnote: Medical information: Both culture broth and mycelial biomass of Volvariella bombycina have been shown to have good antioxidative activity, measured ability to inhibit free radical peroxidation of lipids, in rat brain homogenate. Further studies on the various factors that contribute to antioxidant levels in this species have also been reported.

Antitumor activity: Polysaccharides extracted from mycelial culture of Volvariella bombycina and administered intraperitoneally to white mice at a dosage of 300 ly mg/kg inhibited growth of Sarcoma 180 and Ehrlich solid cancer 100% (Ohtsuka et al., 1973).
