When Nature wants to display its artistic side, it brings forth the Eucalyptus deglupta, popularly known as the Rainbow Eucalyptus due to its fascinating way of shedding bark. As the bark peels off, it reveals bright green inner bark that eventually matures to blue, purple, orange, and maroon, creating a stunning rainbow effect. The unique feature of this tree is that it sheds its bark in sections throughout the year, making the effect even more impressive. This gorgeous tree, also called ‘Mindanao gum’ or ‘rainbow gum,’ is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. It is the only species of Eucalyptus that grows in rainforests and has a natural range extending into the northern hemisphere, out of more than 700 species. The sheer beauty of this tree is truly awe-inspiring.
