Julia Fox has her PhD in taking fashion risks. And her latest gig puts her style IQ to the test.
Fox is hosting and executive producing E!'s OMG Fashun, bringing her style prowess to the small screen while championing a lineup of aspiring designers as they compete to create sustainable designs out of unconventional materials. Fox will play their muse each week and model their designs — and who better to do that than someone who will wear seemingly anything (and has, gorgeously)?
Ahead of the season premiere, PEOPLE sat down with Fox to dig into some of her most OMG Fashion moments (of which there are many) to get the stories behind the skin-baring, off-the-wall, sexy looks she's been rocking for red carpets, runways, paparazzi photos and more.
One of Fox's favorite looks that she wore so far this year was a bridal-inspired white look that showed a lot of skin. She wore it to a Thom Browne event at Sotheby's in New York in January.
"The dress I'd had in my closet for a really long time and I just decided last minute to go to this event, so I just threw this on really quickly," she tells PEOPLE exclusively. "At first, I put the dress on and then one of my boobs was out, 'cause of the way the dress was cut, and then I remembered that I had just bought this Chopova [Lowena] veil on the SSENSE sale. So I was like, great, I'll put the veil on and it'll cover my boob. I just happened to have little gloves and the bag, and the bag said, 'Till death do us part.'"
She admits she was "going back and forth" on what to do about the thong. She didn't know if white or black was the right choice, but she ultimately settled on black, because she liked the idea of peeling "back a layer and she's, like, a slutty, sultry girl."
"Looking at the photo, I do wish that I would've maybe made sure the thong wasn't twisted, but it's okay," she adds.
Another look that really made a splash when Fox wore it was "the body bag." She stepped out in February 2023 in a striking Mikhael Kale look that quite literally included a purse that was a life-size body.
"The moment I saw this, I was like, need to wear now," she says. "I really didn't even wear this anywhere. I just got papped in it and then went back upstairs. ... The body bag is so cool. When it arrived to our office, the interns kind of freaked out when they opened the duffel bag, because they thought they saw a scrunched-up body in there."
Another bold look was the nearly naked look she rocked for PrettyLittleThing during New York Fashion Week last September. Fox tells PEOPLE she felt like she really wanted to show up for the event because it was Naomi Campbell's collab with the brand, and she wanted to support her. However, people "hated" this look by Seks LLC, she says.
"They had to turn the comments off on Instagram, it was so bad," she says. "But I like to see that as a win."
And who could forget the "assless chap skirt" look, complete with a tail that she wore in February 2023. Like some of her other memorable looks, she didn't wear this anywhere — only outside to get photographed in. "I needed to have a moment in this," she says, "but I couldn't really actually wear her anywhere."
The hood was too small and the top was too short, so she couldn't pull the hood over her head or her breasts would fall out the bottom, so it was a delicate balance of placing it just right to get the photos — before heading back upstairs!
If you thought Fox's September 2022 Vaquera bandeau was tape, don't worry, it wasn't. She ensures PEOPLE she would never put tape on her "sensitive" areas. Her pants and boots were both Junya, and she gushes over how "cool" and "comfortable" she felt in this whole look.

She also felt pretty cool in her casual gas-pumping 'fit that she was photographed in in May 2023 in Los Angeles. She may have been rocking casual boxer-brief underwear and a baby tee, but she spruced it up with a blazer.
"My shirt says 'high-class white trash.' I used to have that as a decal sticker on my pickup truck, and I asked the internet to make me a T-shirt, and they did," she says. "So I had to get photographed in it."
Fox also reminisced about walking in the Tommy Hilfiger show during New York Fashion Week in September 2022.
"This was a moment," she says. "I was so happy they put me in this outfit, because it was kind of cold and rainy and I felt just good. Comfortable and warm. I would totally wear that again."
She wore logo tights with a long-sleeve turtleneck sweater bodysuit in the brand's signature colors for her trip down the runway.
We rounded out her OMG moments with one of her sexiest looks to date. In August 2022, she stepped out in Los Angeles in a silicon Joanna Prazmo look that left very little to the imagination. "She does a lot of really cool silicon molding," Fox says of the designer.
"In hindsight, I would've styled this differently, but I didn't have all my things available, so I had to just put on whatever worked."
Fox will put her sartorial whims on display when OMG Fashun kicks off on May 6. She tells people that the show was the "obvious next step" career-wise for her because she wanted to bring her love of fashion and upcycling to a "bigger stage."
"I think people will be blown away by what [the designers] are able to create out of everyday items that often go overlooked," she says of what to expect from the show, which she's judging alongside celebrity stylist Law Roach. "No one would ever think that saran wrap or what's in your junk drawer or leaves could make a cute outfit, but they do."
That's what the designers will be tasked with on the show: Take the unexpected and make fashion. Fox promises that audiences will see the "birth of a lot of new trends" with the way they're all challenged to upcycle and focus on sustainability in a world where consumerism is running rampant.
E!’s OMG Fashun premieres Monday, May 6 at a special time 9:30 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back half-hour episodes. Back-to-back episode premieres to follow weekly with shift back to 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT respectively.
