The oldest tree in the world — it is 9,500 years old and grows in Sweden!

It is really impressive. With this specimen, all others are youngsters.

The world’s oldest tree is a spruce growing in Sweden, in the Fulufjället National Park. It was named “Old Tjikko”- after the dog (nota bene Siberian husky) of its discoverer, Leif Kullman. The spruce is only 5 meters high.

Professor Leif Kullman of Umeå University determined the age of the tree by analyzing the distribution of the radioactive isotope of carbon 14C. He was certainly surprised by the discovery when it turned out that the tree had survived for 95 centuries.
